Liverpool Fans Outraged as Brighton Clash Rescheduled to Monday Night Mayhem
It’s honestly hard to make sense of this one. Liverpool’s final away game of the Premier League season—against Brighton at the Amex—has been moved to a Monday night, May 19, with an 8pm BST kickoff. And if you're a traveling supporter? Brace yourself for a 540-mile round trip with almost no public transport options to get back home. It’s a nightmare scenario that seems to totally ignore the fans who make the game what it is.
Originally, everyone expected this match to be played on Sunday, May 18, keeping with tradition and easing the logistics for those traveling. But the latest broadcast decisions, courtesy of Sky Sports, have shifted things to Monday night under the floodlights. It’s not just inconvenient—it’s ridiculous. While broadcasters chase prime-time ratings, supporters are left scrambling for hotel bookings or facing overnight journeys with limited options.

And it’s not like Liverpool fans haven’t already been through it this season. The Reds have had a consistent 4:30pm Sunday slot, week after week. Fixtures like Leicester away, Chelsea away, and Arsenal at home were all set for those late Sunday starts. But at least they stayed on the weekend. This Brighton shift? It’s one of only two matches in that round that got pulled from the weekend entirely. Chelsea vs. Manchester United, for example, will be played on the Friday before.
To add to the frustration, this game might not even carry that much significance for Liverpool in terms of the title race, depending on how the prior weeks unfold. Brighton, however, could still be fighting for a European spot. And for their fans too, the new schedule disrupts what was supposed to be their last home celebration of the season.
Interestingly, Everton, whose farewell to Goodison Park was also being scheduled, pushed back hard against a Monday slot and were rewarded with a more fan-friendly Sunday noon kickoff against Southampton. It just goes to show—it’s possible to stand up for your supporters, if the club makes the effort.
But Liverpool fans? They're left dealing with the fallout—yet again. Instead of enjoying a hopeful, sunny trip to the south coast in May, they’ll now likely be hustling through a chilly weekday evening, with only a long and difficult journey home to look forward to.
This isn’t just about football. It’s about respect for the people who fuel the game with their passion, loyalty, and wallets. If the Premier League continues to cater only to cameras and corporations, supporters will continue to suffer. And while we’re used to inconvenient kickoffs at this point, this one feels like a particularly bitter pill to swallow.
