Manchester United Ready to Let Garnacho Go as Atletico Madrid Circle
There’s something big brewing at Old Trafford, and it's starting to feel more like the calm before a summer storm. Alejandro Garnacho, one of Manchester United’s most promising young stars, looks increasingly likely to leave the club. And not just any club is interested — Atletico Madrid, led by the ever-intense Diego Simeone, are reportedly pushing hard to bring the 20-year-old winger back to Spain.
From what’s being reported, there’s now a general “acceptance” within Manchester United that Garnacho’s time is up. Despite his clear potential and flashes of brilliance — tallying 10 goals and 8 assists this season — Garnacho hasn't quite clicked under new boss Ruben Amorim’s system. Amorim, known for demanding tactical discipline and specific positional responsibilities, has deployed Garnacho in roles that don’t seem to bring out his best. Even United legend Rio Ferdinand chimed in, saying if he were advising Garnacho, he’d tell him to go. That says a lot.

Apparently, Garnacho himself is open to the move. Atletico Madrid appeals to him — the prospect of playing for Simeone, in a league that suits his style, is hard to turn down. And given United’s intent to start reshaping the squad early in the summer, they’re reportedly willing to part with him sooner rather than later. There's even talk of lowering his asking price to around £34 million — a surprisingly modest fee for a player of his age and potential, especially considering the club originally valued him much higher.
But the situation gets more layered. During talks with Real Betis over the future of loanee Antony — who's been having a resurgence in Spain — United have also enquired about Jesús RodrÃguez, a young and dynamic winger from Betis. A potential swap or separate deal could be in the works, depending on how the negotiations play out. RodrÃguez, known for his versatility and physical presence, has caught the eye of several top clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool. If United are seriously eyeing him, it might hint that they’re already preparing for life post-Garnacho.
What’s even more intriguing is that Atletico Madrid are also showing interest in Antony himself. So now, there’s a possible scenario where both Garnacho and Antony end up at the Wanda Metropolitano — a major shakeup that could reshape both clubs' attacking departments.
All signs point to an important summer at Manchester United. INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe appear ready to make some bold decisions, and Garnacho’s expected departure could be just the beginning. As exciting as it is uncertain, one thing’s clear: the transfer window is heating up, and Garnacho’s name is going to be right in the middle of it.
