RR Bowlers Shine as GT Struggle for Momentum in High-Voltage IPL 2025 Clash
We’re right in the middle of another electrifying IPL 2025 showdown as Gujarat Titans take on Rajasthan Royals at the roaring Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It’s Match 23, and the momentum in this game has been anything but one-sided. While the Titans had hoped for a fiery start with their strong top order, Rajasthan's disciplined bowling has held them in check, and the pressure is mounting.
It all started with Sanju Samson winning the toss and unsurprisingly choosing to bowl first—given the dew factor that's become a trend this season. Rajasthan brought in Fazalhaq Farooqi as a last-minute change for Wanindu Hasaranga, who missed out due to personal reasons. On the other hand, Gujarat remained unchanged, confident with their recent performances.
The Titans opened their innings with skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, but it didn’t take long for the action to explode. In just the third over, Jofra Archer unleashed a vicious inswinger that completely bamboozled Gill, sending his stumps flying. That early wicket was a huge morale booster for RR, and it set the tone for what was to come.

Sai Sudharsan tried to steady the innings and showed great composure, reaching his half-century and carrying on into the 70s. He played some beautiful strokes—especially that classy scoop over fine leg and a few stylish cuts—but the scoring rate never quite lifted to the level GT wanted. Shahrukh Khan did provide a bit of fireworks with a couple of sixes, but his stumping by Sanju Samson off Theekshana was a turning point that halted GT’s momentum just when it seemed they were gaining ground.
Theekshana and Sandeep Sharma deserve a special mention here. While Theekshana bagged two crucial wickets including a smart one to dismiss Shahrukh, Sandeep kept it tight with an economy that’s rare in T20s, especially against an aggressive GT line-up. Even though GT had wickets in hand, the inability to convert that into a high-scoring death overs flourish was a concern. Rahul Tewatia at the crease with Sai Sudharsan seemed promising, but Rajasthan’s bowlers didn’t allow any breathing room.
As of the latest update, GT are 170/4 in 16.3 overs, with a run rate hovering around 10. While that might seem decent, it’s not quite the 200+ many expected given the firepower in GT’s lineup and the batting-friendly conditions of Ahmedabad. RR’s bowlers have kept it intelligent and composed, exploiting every small mistake.
From a broader lens, both teams are carrying their fair share of baggage. GT’s bowling attack is under scrutiny with Rashid Khan and Ishant Sharma not quite delivering this season, and with Coetzee and Rabada unavailable, their depth is looking fragile. On the flip side, RR is banking on Archer and Theekshana to carry their bowling, while still hoping Yashasvi Jaiswal finds consistency at the top of the order.
This match is a tightrope walk for both teams—not just for the points but for the psychological edge. A win keeps GT among the table-toppers, while RR, currently mid-table, could use this boost to stay in the race. For now, all eyes are on the final few overs. Can GT finish strong, or will RR wrap this up with a clinical chase? Stick around—this one’s going down to the wire.
