Shubman Gill Shines, Siraj Strikes Early in GT vs KKR IPL 2025 Showdown
What a night of cricket we’ve had at Eden Gardens! The clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 had everything — explosive batting, sharp bowling, and plenty of drama. Gujarat Titans, led by the ever-elegant Shubman Gill, put up a clinical display with the bat, while KKR stumbled early in their chase, once again struggling with their top-order woes.
Let’s talk about Shubman Gill first — pure class. The GT skipper looked like he was batting on a different surface altogether. Facing his former franchise, Gill brought out a statement innings, scoring 90 off just 55 balls. There was elegance, aggression, and most importantly, intent. Alongside him, B Sai Sudharsan provided the perfect foil, putting together a partnership of 114 runs that laid the foundation for a massive total. Sai himself contributed a solid 52, and it wasn’t just about the runs — it was the way they kept the scoreboard ticking while keeping the bowlers guessing.
KKR’s fielding, though, was far from ideal. Two dropped chances off Jos Buttler’s bat — and boy, did he make them pay. Buttler’s 41-run cameo was filled with power and precision, further adding to KKR’s misery. There was also some quality finishing from the likes of Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia that powered GT to a formidable 198/3 in 20 overs.

Then came the KKR chase. And almost instantly, it fell apart.
Mohammed Siraj, as sharp as ever, drew first blood in the very first over. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, brought in to address KKR’s opening woes, was trapped leg-before with a beautiful delivery. Three reds on DRS, and just like that, the experiment backfired. KKR were 2/1, and the Eden crowd fell silent. Siraj’s first over was pure gold — quick, accurate, and full of intent. He’s now taken 11 wickets this season and is clearly among the best with the new ball.
Sunil Narine and Ajinkya Rahane were left to salvage the innings, but it was evident that the pressure of chasing 199 was already weighing heavy. Narine did strike a boundary early, showing he’s always ready to counterattack, but consistency remains a challenge. Rahane, meanwhile, will need to anchor — and hope someone from the middle order plays a special innings.
Overall, Gujarat Titans have looked like a unit that’s peaking at the right time. Their bowlers are in rhythm, their fielding has been solid, and the batting — especially Gill — is looking unstoppable. KKR, on the other hand, have a lot of questions to answer, especially around their top-order combinations and catching.
As the match progresses, all eyes will be on whether KKR can pull off a miraculous chase or if GT will continue their dominance. But for now, one thing is certain — Shubman Gill has once again reminded the cricketing world why he's a future superstar, and Mohammed Siraj remains one of the fiercest threats with the new ball.
