Tony’s Chocolonely Recalls Easter Chocolate After Reports of Small Stones
Hey everyone, so there’s some pretty surprising news in the chocolate world—especially if you were planning on picking up some Easter sweets. Tony’s Chocolonely, the brand known for its ethically sourced chocolate and bold packaging, has just issued a voluntary recall of some of their bars. Why? Because people have found small stones—yes, actual stones—in a few of them.
The company made the announcement after receiving 12 reports of these foreign objects, which seem to have made it into the chocolate during the almond harvesting and processing stages. Apparently, the stones weren’t properly filtered out by one of their third-party suppliers. That’s a serious issue when you think about how easily someone could bite into one of these without noticing. Luckily, no injuries have been reported so far.

The recall affects seven specific lots of their Dark Almond Sea Salt and Everything bars—two of their most popular flavors—and it includes products that were sold at big-name retailers like Walmart and Target across both the U.S. and Canada. The affected bars were distributed between February 7 and March 24. While the company emphasizes that the risk to consumers is low, they’re acting “out of an abundance of caution,” which honestly, I respect. Better to be proactive in situations like this.
If you’ve got one of these bars at home, check the lot number printed on the side of the wrapper. Tony’s has listed all the impacted codes on their site, and if your bar matches, they’re asking you to either return it to the store where you bought it or dispose of it entirely. If you bought it online, they’ve set up a refund request form so you’re not left out.
It’s a bit of a letdown, especially right before Easter, but it’s good to see a brand owning the situation and putting safety first. So if you're planning to stock up on chocolate this weekend, maybe double-check those labels or grab something else until things are sorted.
