Unai Emery Confident Despite PSG's Late Goal in Villa's Champions League Fight
Aston Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, has made it clear that his team's approach and task in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain won’t be influenced by the late goal scored by PSG in the first leg. Despite Villa’s promising performance in Paris, the 3-1 defeat has not dampened their spirits, and Emery remains resolute that the tie is still very much alive.
In the first leg, Aston Villa had a tough battle against a strong PSG side. They managed to open the scoring early thanks to a strike from Morgan Rogers, giving them a brief but much-needed lead. However, PSG quickly responded with two impressive goals from Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, which put Villa on the back foot. Despite conceding twice, Villa’s defense stood firm, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez delivering a string of crucial saves, making sure the deficit stayed at just one goal.

It seemed like Villa would return home from the French capital with a manageable 2-1 loss, but then, in the dying moments of the game, Nuno Mendes scored a late goal for PSG, increasing the scoreline to 3-1. This goal, however, hasn’t shaken Unai Emery’s belief in his team's ability to turn things around in the second leg. The Villa boss insists that despite the late blow, the task ahead for his team remains unchanged.
Emery’s confidence comes from Villa’s resilience and the fact that PSG’s third goal came so late in the match. Villa had contained the French giants for much of the game, and had they avoided that late concession, they would have been in an even stronger position going into the second leg. With the backing of their home crowd, Emery believes that Villa can still overcome PSG and secure a place in the semifinals.
This clash between Villa and PSG is far from over, and Emery’s focus is now entirely on preparing his team for what promises to be an intense and crucial second leg at Villa Park. Despite the challenge ahead, the tie is still open, and Emery is determined to guide Villa through to the next stage of the competition.
