Emma Saunders Eyes August Comeback After Life-Changing Health Battles

Hey everyone, today I want to share something truly powerful and deeply inspiring about someone many of us know and admire—Emma Saunders. You’ll recognise her as a familiar face from Sky Sports, especially covering women’s football. But recently, her story has been about so much more than sports—it’s been about resilience, love, and the strength to fight through unimaginable challenges.

Earlier this year, Emma opened up about a terrifying chapter in her life. She had already been undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer, a diagnosis that she quietly faced at the start of the season. That alone would be an immense battle for anyone. But then things took a much darker turn—Emma was hospitalised with encephalitis, a rare and serious brain infection that left her in a coma.

Can you imagine that? Starting the season fighting cancer and then suddenly finding yourself in a coma because of a brain infection. It’s the kind of thing that stops your whole world. And yet, through it all, Emma’s spirit remained strong. She shared updates with fans in March, explaining why she had to step away from work and expressing deep gratitude to the NHS, her Sky Sports colleagues, friends, and especially her partner, football manager Will Still.

Will has been by her side every step of the way. In fact, he made the heart-wrenching decision to leave his position as RC Lens' manager in France and return to the UK—just to be closer to Emma while she heals. That kind of love and support? It's rare, and it says so much about the bond they share.

Emma’s last game on duty this season was back in February at Anfield. At the time, she didn’t know it would be her final broadcast for the season. But even though her plans for a return before the season’s end didn’t pan out, there’s something hopeful on the horizon. Just recently, she posted a much more uplifting update—she’s on the mend, feeling more like herself, and she’s now looking forward to a “fresh start” in August, when the 2025/26 season kicks off.

Seeing her back on screen this summer will be a full-circle moment—not just for her, but for all of us who have watched her journey unfold with admiration. From a life-threatening illness to planning a return to doing what she loves—it’s nothing short of remarkable.

Emma Saunders is more than just a presenter. She’s a symbol of courage and perseverance. And when she returns to Sky Sports, it won’t just be business as usual—it’ll be a celebration of everything she’s overcome. I, for one, can’t wait to see her back.
