Lidl Recalls Popular Snack Bars Over Plastic Contamination Fears
Hey everyone, I just wanted to give you a quick heads-up about something quite serious—especially if you're into healthy snacking like I am. Lidl has issued an urgent product recall that we all need to be aware of. This isn't just a minor issue—it’s a "do not eat" warning that’s been flagged by the Food Standards Agency.
So, here’s what’s going on. Lidl has pulled several of its Alesto Raw Fruit & Nut Bars from the shelves because they might contain plastic . Yes, actual bits of plastic that pose a choking hazard. That’s not something you’d expect from a snack marketed as a wholesome, health-conscious option, right?

The affected bars come in a variety pack of five 35g bars, and the flavors include cocoa and orange, blueberry muffin, salted caramel, and berry. The problem affects bars with best-before dates stretching through November and December 2025. If you’ve picked up one of these recently—or even stocked up for the months ahead—go check your cupboard now.
Lidl has put up point-of-sale notices in their stores to inform customers, and they’re offering full refunds for any returns. No receipt needed. They’ve been pretty clear in their statement: if you’ve bought any of these bars, do not eat them . The presence of plastic makes them unsafe, full stop.
This recall was issued in cooperation with the Food Standards Agency, and while they haven’t specified how large the plastic fragments might be, they’ve emphasized the seriousness of the hazard. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time we've seen something like this. Just last month, Morrisons had to recall their sausages, and earlier this year, Heineken pulled Newcastle Brown Ale over shattered glass concerns.
It’s a stark reminder that even the products we think are safe—especially ones branded as “healthy”—can sometimes slip through the cracks of quality control. As frustrating as it is, it's better to be safe than sorry. So, again: if you’ve got any Alesto Raw Fruit & Nut Bars from Lidl, especially those flavors I mentioned, with those best-before dates—don’t risk it. Take them back, get your refund, and stay safe.
And while you’re at it, maybe have a look through your pantry for anything else that might’ve flown under the radar. Food safety issues like these don’t always make the front page, but they’re real, and they affect people just like you and me.
Stay informed, and share this with anyone you know who shops at Lidl!
