Toyota Recalls Over 440,000 Tundras for Dangerous Light Malfunction
Hey everyone, let’s talk about something that could be a big deal for a lot of drivers out there — especially if you own a Toyota Tundra. Toyota has just announced a major recall that affects more than 440,000 vehicles, and the issue is something you really shouldn't ignore. The recall is due to a malfunction in the reverse lights that could significantly impact visibility when backing up. And if you're thinking, “It’s just a light, right?” — not exactly. This problem can lead to serious safety concerns.
The recall affects both the standard Toyota Tundra and the Tundra Hybrid models from the years 2022 through 2025. That’s a lot of trucks on the road that might be unknowingly driving around with a flaw that could increase the risk of a crash. Here’s what’s happening: moisture can seep into the reverse light assemblies, eventually causing them to fail. If both lights stop working, drivers could lose crucial visibility when reversing — and maybe even worse, other cars and pedestrians wouldn’t be able to see that the truck is backing up.

Now imagine trying to back out of a tight spot in a parking lot, or reversing out of a driveway at night, and no one can see you’re moving. That’s a recipe for disaster. Toyota reported the issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on May 19, and they’re not taking it lightly.
So what should you do if you own one of these models? First off, don’t panic. Toyota is handling the situation and offering free repairs. You can take your Tundra or Tundra Hybrid to a certified Toyota dealer, and they’ll inspect and either repair or replace the light assemblies and wire harnesses as needed — at no cost to you. The company plans to start mailing notification letters to affected owners starting June 30, 2025.
In the meantime, if you want to check whether your truck is on the list, you can look it up in the NHTSA recall database or call Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Just reference recall numbers 24TB06 or 24TA06.
This isn’t the first recall we’ve seen lately — Ford, GM, Acura, and others have also been dealing with issues — but it’s a reminder of how important it is to stay up to date with recall news. Your vehicle’s safety features aren’t just bells and whistles; they’re there to protect you and everyone else on the road.
So spread the word. If you or someone you know drives a Toyota Tundra from the last few model years, make sure they get this checked out. It’s a quick fix that could prevent a serious accident.
