What’s Open and Closed This Victoria Day in Sault Ste. Marie
As we ease into the Victoria Day long weekend, many of us are ready to soak in some well-deserved relaxation and quality time with friends and family. But before you make your plans, it's important to know what's open and closed in Sault Ste. Marie this Monday, May 19, 2025.
Like every year, this federal holiday brings a shift in our usual routines. If you were thinking about running errands or catching up on some shopping, take note: most major retail stores will be closed. However, if you're in need of essential items or prescriptions, you’re in luck. The Shoppers Drug Mart located at Cambrian Mall will remain open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the Rexall on Second Line and Wellington will be operating from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
While big malls like Cambrian Mall and Station Mall are taking the day off, the Galaxy Cinema at Station Mall is staying open for both matinees and evening movies—great news if you're looking for a family-friendly outing.

As expected, government-run services like Canada Post will be paused for the day, and schools will be closed. Sault Transit and Parabus services are also taking a break, resuming regular operations on Tuesday. If you're used to setting out your garbage, leaf, or recycling bins on Monday, hold off a day—collection services will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
The LCBO and Beer Store locations will also be closed, so make sure to stock up beforehand if you plan to enjoy a backyard barbecue or toast the unofficial start of summer.
On a brighter note, if you're hoping to enjoy some recreation, the John Rhodes Community Centre Pool is offering a special schedule. From 11:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., there's Parent & Child/Lane Swim, and from 1:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the pool will be open to the general public. It's a great way to let the kids burn off energy or get some laps in yourself.
Libraries across the city will also be closed, so be sure to grab your weekend reads in advance.
So, while some doors may be closed this Monday, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the holiday. Whether you plan to relax at home, catch a movie, or take a dip at the pool, make the most of your Victoria Day and enjoy the slower pace—even if just for a day.
