Wrath of Rakshasa Unleashed: Six Flags Debuts the World’s Steepest Dive Coaster

Just when you think you’ve felt every thrill a roller coaster can offer, Six Flags Great America comes in and flips the game—literally. I had the insane opportunity to ride the all-new Wrath of Rakshasa, and let me tell you, this is not your average theme park experience. It’s a gravity-defying, heart-racing ride that redefines what it means to be a thrill seeker.

Six Flags Great America, located in Gurnee, Illinois, is already a staple in the Midwest for high-octane roller coasters and adrenaline-packed rides. But the Wrath of Rakshasa takes it to a new level. It's been a little over a month since the park opened for the 2025 season, but anticipation has been building fast for this latest beast—and I got the sneak peek.

The Wrath of Rakshasa is officially the steepest and most inverted dive coaster on the planet. That’s not just marketing hype. We’re talking about a 96-degree drop—yes, beyond vertical—from a staggering 171 feet in the air. When you’re strapped in, there’s a moment of calm as the ride climbs higher and higher, but don’t be fooled. Just before the drop, you hang at the edge for three long seconds, staring down into the abyss. Then suddenly, you plunge—fast, furious, and flipping.

The ride rockets through five dizzying inversions at nearly 67 miles per hour, pushing your body to its limits and your voice to full volume. And it’s not just the stats that are insane—it’s the feeling. You’re twisted, flipped, and thrown into elements that feel like something out of a sci-fi movie. Every second is engineered for maximum impact.

Construction wrapped up just this week, with massive tower cranes hoisting the final pieces into place. You can see the towering structure from across the park, a new monument to Six Flags' legacy of pushing boundaries. It officially opens to the public on May 31, but after riding it myself, I can say this: if you think you’ve experienced the wildest coaster out there, think again.

Wrath of Rakshasa is more than a ride—it’s a rite of passage for thrill lovers. And if you’re brave enough, I dare you to take that first drop. You won’t just scream—you’ll remember it forever.
