A Heartbreaking Farewell in Sunrise After Tragic Double Stabbing

It’s hard to find words when a community loses someone so vibrant, so full of life, and so loved. In Sunrise, Florida, heartbreak has gripped family and friends as they said their final goodbyes to Hailey Hosford — a 27-year-old woman who was senselessly killed in a brutal knife attack on May 28th.

Hailey wasn't just a name in the headlines. She was a beloved hairstylist, a yoga teacher, an ambassador for wellness, and above all, a woman who brought light into the lives of everyone she touched. Her friends called her “a force to be reckoned with,” and her mother’s tearful tribute at her memorial service painted a picture of a daughter who was deeply loved. “Hailey was love,” her mother said through tears. “And she was my baby.”

That love and spirit were tragically extinguished in a luxury apartment complex parking garage — The Retreat at Sawgrass Village. It was just after 1:30 a.m. when Hailey was approached by a 280-pound man armed with a knife: 21-year-old Jackson Sagesse. The horrifying moments that followed were captured on security footage. Hailey tried to escape, jumping into a car, but Sagesse allegedly tore open the door and began stabbing her in a frenzy. Her friend, who had gone upstairs briefly, returned and tried to intervene — only to be stabbed in the throat.

Sagesse fled the scene but was quickly tracked down in the same apartment complex, still wearing the same clothes seen in surveillance footage. Police later found blood in his home, along with knives matching the murder weapon. In a chilling confession after being read his rights, Sagesse reportedly told officers, “I just killed someone and walked away.”

He’s currently being held without bond on charges of premeditated murder and attempted murder. While he claimed self-defense during questioning, his story was riddled with contradictions — and ultimately, offered no justification for the violence he unleashed.

For the people who knew and loved Hailey, the legal process now begins. But nothing can bring her back. Her final words, sent in a message to a close friend just before her death, captured the beauty and love she carried within her: “The sun is shining, the sky is blue, the water is turquoise, and I love you… you mean the world to me.”

That’s the Hailey they’ll remember. Not the way she left, but the light she gave while she was here. A life that should never have been cut short. A soul that will never be forgotten.
