Arjun Nimmala Powers Vancouver Canadians to Sixth Straight Victory

It was a perfect night at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver as the Canadians continued their hot streak, winning their sixth straight game and holding firm in first place in the Northwest League standings. This time, the spotlight belonged to top Toronto Blue Jays prospect Arjun Nimmala, who crushed a three-run homer that shifted the momentum and ultimately led to an 8-4 victory over the Spokane Indians.

Let me walk you through it like I was there.

The game started with Spokane taking a 2-1 lead in the top of the third, but Vancouver wasted no time responding. Nick Goodwin drew a walk, Victor Arias laced a double, and then—bam—Nimmala stepped up and launched a towering drive into the visitor’s bullpen. Just like that, the Canadians were in front 4-2, and the crowd at The Nat erupted. That was Nimmala’s tenth home run of the season, snapping his longest drought without a homer this year, and what a time to deliver.

Jackson Hornung kept the rally alive with an infield single, Cutter Coffey followed with a double, and Sean Keys knocked in another with a sac fly. Before Spokane knew it, they were down 5-2. Even when Spokane clawed back a run in the fourth, Vancouver answered immediately. Goodwin walked again, Arias singled, and with the bases loaded thanks to a catcher’s interference, Coffey ripped a clutch two-run single to left. The C’s were up 7-3 and never looked back.

And speaking of Coffey, what a night—three hits and multiple RBIs. Eddie Micheletti Jr. also joined the party with an RBI double in the seventh to add a bit more cushion.

On the pitching side, relievers Pat Gallagher and Yondrei Rojas were lights out. They combined for nearly five innings of scoreless relief, scattering just a few hits and striking out eight. Spokane tried to mount a rally in the ninth with a solo homer and the bases loaded, but Chay Yeager came in, threw just two pitches, and sealed the win with a pop-up.

The energy was electric, every starter reached base, and Vancouver is now tied for first with Everett in the standings at 31-28, with just seven games left in the first half. This six-game win streak is their longest of the season, and they’ve now won 14 of their last 16. It’s got all the makings of a championship run.

Next up, Gage Stanifer gets the ball for his first High-A start. If the C’s keep playing like this, the rest of the league better watch out.
