Beloved Voice Actor Jonathan Joss Tragically Killed in Texas Shooting
Today, we reflect on the shocking and heartbreaking news of Jonathan Joss—the acclaimed voice actor best known for bringing life to John Redcorn on King of the Hill —who was tragically shot and killed outside his home in San Antonio, Texas.
On the evening of Sunday, June 2nd, police responded to an emergency call in a quiet residential area of San Antonio. When they arrived, they found Joss wounded near the street. Despite efforts by first responders to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 59 years old.
What makes this tragedy even more painful is the context surrounding it. According to a deeply emotional post by his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, the couple was at the home—still damaged from a devastating fire earlier this year that claimed the lives of their three dogs—when the shooting occurred. As they were grieving and checking their mail, they reportedly discovered the remains of one of their pets. It was at this moment that a man allegedly approached them and began yelling homophobic slurs before opening fire.
Tristan shared that Joss had no weapons and posed no threat. He was simply grieving. In a heroic act of love and sacrifice, Joss pushed Tristan out of the line of fire, saving his husband’s life in his final moments. The suspect, 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, was arrested and charged with murder. Authorities have stated the investigation is ongoing.

Joss’s death marks a devastating loss for the entertainment community. He was a proud Native American actor and a beloved figure in television, remembered not only for King of the Hill , but also for roles in Parks and Recreation and Tulsa King . Fans recently saw him celebrating the upcoming King of the Hill reboot—he had even completed voice work on several new episodes.
Beyond his talent, Jonathan was known for his compassion and authenticity. His husband described him as someone who deeply appreciated his fans, who saw them as family, and who found purpose and connection through his art.
In January, after the house fire, a GoFundMe was created to help Joss recover from the loss of his home, belongings, and pets. He had been working to rebuild his life—just months later, he would become a victim of senseless violence.
This tragedy is not just about the loss of a beloved performer. It highlights the devastating consequences of hatred, the enduring pain of grief, and the ultimate price paid by someone simply trying to move forward with dignity.
Rest in peace, Jonathan Joss. Your voice, your spirit, and your courage will not be forgotten.
