Couple Kicked Off TUI Holiday in Corfu After Complaining About Hotel Food
Imagine booking a peaceful getaway to Corfu, a destination you've previously loved, only to find yourself kicked out of your hotel and banned from flying home — all because you dared to complain about the food. That’s exactly what happened to Paul and Ellie Bell, a British couple in their 60s from North Shields, who now say they’ll never travel with TUI again.
Paul and Ellie booked a half-board package with TUI to stay at the Terezas Hotel in Sidari. Having been there before, they expected a relaxing and familiar holiday. But things took an unexpected turn when Ellie politely raised concerns about the food quality to the hotel manager. According to Paul, meals included tepid dishes like “rice with sprouts” or “a slice of beetroot on rice.” Ellie asked the manager to join them for breakfast the next day to witness the issue first-hand, but he never showed up.

Then, out of nowhere, a letter was handed to the couple stating they were being ejected from the hotel due to causing a "serious disturbance" and using "aggressive and disrespectful language" — accusations they vehemently deny. Paul says they never shouted, never caused a scene, and that TUI never even spoke to them directly to get their side of the story. He recalls, “We just spoke to the rep once. There was no aggression, no raised voices. They just took the manager’s word and made their decision.”
To make matters worse, the couple was later told they wouldn’t be allowed on their return flight to the UK. Paul had to book alternative flights with Jet2 at a personal cost of over €328, along with a €60 taxi ride to the airport — since they were denied their original transfer. Just hours after all this chaos, TUI sent a follow-up email saying the ban had been lifted and they could now return on the original flight. But by then, they were already home.
Paul is understandably frustrated: “What good is that to us now? We were forced to make new arrangements. We’ve never had trouble on holiday before, but this was handled disgracefully. No one gave us a chance to explain.”
This isn’t the first time TUI customers have raised red flags about service in Corfu either. Earlier in June, another traveller also complained about food quality and vowed never to use the company again.
TUI has said it plans to reimburse the Bells for their flight and travel costs, but has declined to comment further. Meanwhile, Paul and Ellie remain adamant: their holiday was ruined, their reputation unfairly tarnished, and they’ll be steering clear of TUI in the future.
