Eurostar Chaos as Tragedy Near Lille Causes Major Travel Disruption
Hey everyone, just wanted to talk about what’s been happening with Eurostar today—it’s been absolute chaos. If you're planning to travel to or from Paris, Brussels, or London, you might want to hold off for now. Earlier today, there were two tragic incidents on the LGV Nord high-speed line between Lille and Paris where two individuals were struck and killed by trains. The consequences have rippled across the entire Eurostar network, and it’s still a developing situation.
The line between Lille and Paris was shut down for much of the afternoon and remains suspended into the evening. That has completely thrown off the schedule for all Eurostar trains passing through this route. Some passengers have been stuck on trains for hours, with no clear timeline on when things would get back to normal.
One particular account that caught attention came from Naomi Sanger, a passenger stuck at Gare du Nord in Paris. She boarded her train at 4 PM, expecting to depart shortly after, but it didn’t move until almost 7 PM local time. The train ran out of food and drinks, the air conditioning stopped working, and even the card and coffee machines broke down. She described the whole experience as a “total joke.” I mean, imagine being trapped for hours in those conditions.

Passengers at the station have been scrambling to find food and water, forming long queues at the concourse. Eurostar did manage to get some delayed services moving by the evening, but it’s clear the disruption is far from over. Trains and crews are out of position, which means delays will likely spill over into tomorrow as well.
Eurostar has responded with a statement expressing deep sorrow over the fatalities and extended their sympathies to the families of the victims. They’re coordinating with French authorities to manage the aftermath. For customers affected, they’re offering free exchanges on tickets, hotel accommodations, taxis, and direct communication about rebooking options.
What’s frustrating for many, though, is the lack of clear communication early on. While some travelers have received updates, others feel left in the dark—stuck on platforms or stranded mid-journey, unsure of what to do next. It's just a tough and emotional situation all around.
If you're due to travel soon, Eurostar recommends changing your journey to another day or later time, free of charge, subject to availability. They’re working on restoring service, but honestly, it’s going to take time. My advice? Keep checking their website, your email, and travel apps for updates, and if possible, make alternative arrangements.
Stay safe, and if you’re already affected by the delays—hang in there.
