Father's Day Forecast: A Little Sunshine, A Little Storm
Hey there, everyone. So, we’re talking about Father’s Day — not just what to get Dad or where to take him, but what kind of weather we’re working with if you’re planning something outdoors. And yes, there’s some buzz about it because, well, the forecast is doing that thing where it keeps us guessing.
Ken Barlow from KSTP gave us a little optimism this Sunday morning. He says the weather is going to be “slightly better” than Saturday — which, let’s be honest, is already a win if Saturday had you stuck inside or dodging rain. Now, this morning did kick off with some fog in a few spots, but that’s clearing up, and we’ll actually get some sunshine and warmer temperatures today. You might catch an isolated shower here or there, but overall, it won’t be a total washout. So, if you were eyeing that BBQ or planning a quick hike with Dad, there’s still a solid window of dry, decent weather to make it happen.

Now here’s where it gets tricky. While today seems manageable, things change again tonight. Thunderstorm chances return overnight and carry into Monday afternoon and evening — and this isn’t just the usual scattered rain. We’re talking a First Alert for potentially severe weather: high winds, hail, and even the slight chance of a tornado. Not exactly the kind of Father’s Day after-party we had in mind, right?
Over in the Bluegrass region, it’s a similar vibe. Emily McKinney reports that parts of Kentucky woke up to fog and showers. The rest of the day looks like a mix — a little sun, some heavy downpours here and there, thunder and lightning sprinkled in. It’s muggy, with highs in the low 80s. So yeah, it’s one of those “carry an umbrella but hope you don’t need it” kind of days.
Looking ahead through the week, expect this unsettled pattern to linger a bit. Rain totals could creep up to 1.5 to 2 inches by Thursday, but the silver lining is that late in the week — heading into next weekend — things look dry and very warm. Mid to upper 80s, maybe even flirting with the 90s. Summer’s knocking.
Bottom line: Father’s Day isn’t a total weather bust. You’ve got windows of good weather, especially earlier in the day, but keep an eye on the skies and maybe push those outdoor plans up just a little. Whether you’re grilling, golfing, or just relaxing with Dad, here’s hoping the weather behaves long enough to enjoy it.
