Glenn Close Joins Hunger Games Prequel in a Chilling New Role
So, here’s some exciting movie news that I just have to talk about—Glenn Close is officially joining the ever-expanding cast of the upcoming Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping ! Yes, that Glenn Close—Oscar-nominated legend, powerhouse performer, and all-around cinematic icon. She’s stepping into the dark and extravagant world of Panem, and honestly, it feels like the perfect match.

Lionsgate confirmed the casting at CinemaCon Europe, and the details are juicy. Close will portray Drusilla Sickle, the sinister and flamboyant Capitol escort for the District 12 Tributes in the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. This isn't just any Hunger Games either—it’s the same one where a young Haymitch Abernathy, later played by Woody Harrelson in the original films, first enters the arena. In Sunrise , Haymitch will be played by Joseph Zada.
But Glenn Close isn’t arriving alone. Billy Porter is also joining the film as Magno Stift—Drusilla’s estranged husband and the fashion designer assigned to District 12’s tributes. Picture this: he’s infamous for reusing old costume designs and has a bizarre obsession with adding live reptiles to his creations. It’s going to be bizarre, brilliant, and I’m already imagining the Capitol fashion on steroids.
What’s especially thrilling is how the production team is talking about this casting. Producer Nina Jacobson said, “Glenn Close is a dream Drusilla,” emphasizing how her intelligence and depth bring unforgettable characters to life. If that doesn’t give you goosebumps, I don’t know what will. And with Billy Porter’s flair and dramatic command, this film is clearly stacking its deck with some serious acting firepower.
Let’s not forget, this cast is shaping up to be a star-studded event. Alongside Close and Porter, we’ve got Ralph Fiennes as the new President Snow, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Elle Fanning as a young Effie Trinket, and even Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kieran Culkin joining the fold. It’s like the Oscars and Comic-Con had a baby.
Sunrise on the Reaping is set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026, and I can already tell it’s going to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Between the return to Panem, a fresh but familiar storyline, and now Glenn Close bringing her legendary gravitas to the Capitol, we are in for something truly special. Keep your eyes peeled, because this reaping is definitely worth watching.
