Medford Faces Overnight Power Outage: What You Need to Know Tonight

Hey folks, I want to give you a heads-up about something important happening tonight here in Medford. If you live near Wellington Circle — especially on or around Seventh, Ninth, Brainard Avenue, or parts of Fifth and Sixth Streets — you’re going to be affected by an overnight power outage. So if you're in that zone, now’s the time to get prepared.

This planned outage is being carried out by National Grid. Originally, it was supposed to happen last Friday, but it got pushed to tonight — Monday, June 30. The outage is scheduled to start at 11 p.m. and last until around 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. So we’re talking about a good seven hours without power overnight.

What does that mean? For starters, it’s not just your lights or phone chargers going out. Street lights in the affected areas will be shut down as well. That’s something to really take seriously, especially if you’re driving or walking in those neighborhoods late tonight or early in the morning. Visibility will be low, and extra caution is absolutely necessary.

The city made sure to emphasize that safety is a top priority here. They’re asking residents to prepare accordingly — charge your devices in advance, plan ahead if you rely on electric medical devices, and maybe keep a flashlight handy just in case you need to move around.

It’s not ideal, of course. Power outages never are, even when they’re planned. But the work being done is necessary. National Grid is conducting electrical maintenance that will hopefully make the grid more stable and reliable for all of us in the long run.

So again — if you’re in the affected part of Medford, mark the time: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Get what you need ready now, and stay safe during the outage. With a little preparation, we’ll get through the night just fine.
