The situation escalated on June 12, when Kelly was allegedly given an "overdose quantity" of his regular medications for anxiety and sleep by staff at the Federal Correctional Institute in Butner, North Carolina. This took place just days after he had been placed in solitary confinement—reportedly against his will—on June 10. On the morning of June 13, Kelly was found in a dire state: faint, dizzy, seeing black spots, and eventually losing consciousness on the floor of his prison cell. He was rushed to Duke University Hospital by ambulance, where doctors reportedly discovered blood clots in both his legs and lungs.
Even more disturbing are claims made in the legal filings that Kelly was forcibly removed from the hospital before he could receive life-saving surgery. According to his lawyer, the medical team had advised that he remain hospitalized for at least two weeks to undergo treatment. Instead, within an hour of that recommendation, armed officers allegedly entered his room and took him back to prison, despite his deteriorating condition and the doctors' objections.
Kelly’s legal team is now seeking a temporary release or house arrest, arguing that his life is in imminent danger. They have even gone as far as calling on former President Trump for help, citing that only someone willing to challenge systemic corruption can intervene meaningfully. They also allege that there may have been a plot within the prison to have Kelly killed by other inmates, citing testimony from another prisoner who claimed he was approached with such a proposition.
Meanwhile, federal prosecutors have dismissed the claims as “fanciful” and “theatrical,” arguing that the filings were made in the wrong court and lacked procedural merit. They accused Kelly of manipulation and warned that granting him release would set a dangerous precedent for other serious offenders.
As it stands, R. Kelly is back in solitary confinement, and according to his legal team, still without the medical treatment he urgently needs. Whether these claims are proven true or not, the gravity of the accusations and the life-threatening health scare cannot be ignored.
