Six Injured in Major Downtown Gatlinburg Crash That Shut Down Parkway
Hey everyone, I want to bring attention to a serious situation that unfolded yesterday afternoon in the heart of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, a major multi-vehicle crash occurred in the 700 block of Parkway — that’s right in the busy downtown area where tourists and locals alike are always moving about.
According to updates from the City of Gatlinburg and reports from the Gatlinburg Police Department, the crash was severe enough to send six people to the hospital. Out of those, three individuals were in such critical condition that they had to be airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The other three were transported by ambulance to nearby medical facilities.

This was not just a minor fender-bender — the crash essentially shut down a large portion of the Parkway between traffic lights No. 6 and No. 8. If you know Gatlinburg, you know that stretch is always bustling with activity. Witness footage and images, including shots from the Space Needle, show multiple vehicles visibly damaged, emergency lights flashing, and responders working intensively at the scene.
Both the Gatlinburg Police and Fire Departments were on site almost immediately, with the Tennessee Highway Patrol joining in to assist with the investigation. As of the last update, the road remained closed well into the evening while crews worked to clear the wreckage and gather evidence. It was a chaotic scene — traffic was brought to a complete standstill, and the entire area was flooded with first responders trying to manage the aftermath.
At this time, there’s still no official word on what caused the crash or the identities of those injured, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not released any further details, so this is very much a developing story. But what’s clear is that this was a serious event that deeply impacted a usually vibrant, family-friendly part of town.
If you were planning to visit Gatlinburg or were in the area at the time, it's likely you felt the ripple effects — not just in terms of traffic, but also in the general atmosphere of concern and shock. It’s always sobering to see something like this happen in such a well-loved destination.
Let’s keep the injured in our thoughts and hope for their full recovery. And as always, if you're driving through busy tourist areas — whether it’s Gatlinburg or elsewhere — please stay alert, drive safe, and watch out for others on the road.
