Sweltering Start to Summer: Heat and Humidity Dominate the Forecast

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a heads-up about what’s going on with our weather — especially as we officially step into summer. Let’s talk about this heatwave that’s rolling in and what we can expect in the coming days.

So, summer hasn’t even technically started yet, but you wouldn’t know that by stepping outside. The heat and humidity are arriving ahead of schedule, hitting us with that signature sticky air and climbing temperatures. Storm Team 10 has issued a Weather Alert, and it's for good reason — feels-like temperatures, also known as the heat index, could be pushing into the 95 to 100-degree range in some parts of the region.

Now, while actual air temps might hover just above or below 90 degrees, it’s the dew points — sitting in the low 70s — that are making things feel especially tropical and heavy. You know that thick, muggy air where even a short walk outside feels like a workout? Yeah, that’s what we’re dealing with.

If you're trying to cool off, your best bet is heading to the south coast. Thanks to a strong southwest breeze off the ocean, coastal temps should be a bit more forgiving — topping out in the upper 70s to near 80. Not a bad excuse for a beach day, right?

Now, the good news: relief is on the way — kind of. A cold front is expected to push through the Northeast this evening. As it moves in, most of its punch will wear off because the sun will already be setting and the atmosphere begins to calm down. But still, we can’t completely rule out a quick shower or a pop-up storm, especially if you're located north and west of I-95.

The real benefit of this front isn’t rain — it’s what comes behind it. Dew points are expected to crash, and that means we’re looking at a much drier, more comfortable air mass settling in for Friday. It’s like the universe is giving us a break to enjoy the official kickoff of summer — bright blue skies, low humidity, and seasonal temps in the mid-80s. Honestly, Friday is shaping up to be one of those picture-perfect days.

But — and yes, there’s always a but — don’t get too used to it. That drop in humidity is short-lived. As we move into the weekend, the mugginess comes surging back. Saturday will still be nice with some sunshine and warm air, but Sunday... that’s when we dive headfirst back into the heat and stickiness. Highs around 90 and a very summer-like feel will dominate.

And looking into next week? The heat just doesn’t let up. We’re talking highs in the 90s, with heat indices likely pushing triple digits again. So, hydrate, wear light clothing, take it easy outdoors when you can — and if you're lucky enough to have air conditioning, now’s the time to give it some love.

Welcome to summer 2025 — and it’s already coming in hot. Stay safe out there!
