Sylvan Lake Library to Host First-Ever Community Book Expo Celebration

Hey everyone! I’ve got something really exciting to share happening right here in our own backyard—Sylvan Lake is about to launch its very first Book Expo at the Municipal Library, and trust me, it’s shaping up to be a must-attend event for readers, writers, and lovers of all things literary.

Mark your calendars for July 12th , because from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. , the entire library is going to be transformed into a buzzing hub of creativity, storytelling, and community connection. What’s so special about this event? Well, it’s the library’s first-ever attempt at bringing together local authors, publishers, editors, and book-themed vendors all under one roof. And the best part? It’s completely free and open to all ages .

This whole idea came from a heartfelt place. Maddie Anderson, one of the library’s passionate programmers, got inspired after attending a book fair at her son’s school. She wanted to recreate that sense of wonder and community—but this time, with something for the grown-ups too. So she envisioned a space where you can chat with local authors, get your books signed, discover indie publishers, and just celebrate the magic of storytelling.

The author lineup is really impressive. You’ve got Doug Morrison and Katrina Carnoky representing adult fiction, J.A. Armitage bringing in romance and YA fantasy, and Maiden Manzanal-Frank with some thought-provoking non-fiction. For poetry lovers, Patti Sinclair will be sharing her work, while Deborah Rycroft and Barbara Rimmer will charm younger readers with picture books.

The event is scheduled with live readings and talks throughout the day—from Doug Morrison at 11:30 a.m. all the way to Patti Sinclair wrapping things up at 3:30 p.m. There’s even a dedicated Story Time session for kids around 2:30 p.m., so bring the family.

In addition to the authors, vendors like Blissful Yarn Creations and Under the Covers will be stationed in what they’re calling the "Vendors Alley"—located right in the café. Meanwhile, each author will have their own table in the main library area, and spots without author tables will host interactive activities. It’s not just about books—it’s about making the library a living, breathing part of our town's heart.

One thing to remember: bring cash ! Not all vendors will have debit or credit machines on site, so plan ahead.

And hey—if you’re feeling inspired and want to be part of the behind-the-scenes magic, the library is still looking for volunteers . If you’re already signed up as one, just reach out to Maddie directly. If not, head to the volunteer section on their website to get involved.

Honestly, this is more than just an event—it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and connection. So swing by the Sylvan Lake Library on July 12, meet some amazing storytellers, support local talent, and reignite your love for reading. Hope to see you there!
