Tragedy in Fontana: Gloria Zamora’s Life Cut Short in Heartbreaking Shooting
It’s with a heavy heart that I talk about the heartbreaking news that’s shaken not only the fitness community but also countless people online—Gloria Zamora, a beloved fitness influencer, was tragically shot and killed in Fontana, California. This senseless act of violence happened on June 22, outside a local sushi restaurant where Gloria was meeting with her business partner, Hector Garduno, to discuss a new project. What was supposed to be a casual and inspiring conversation turned into a devastating crime scene.
According to authorities and her grieving family, the shooter was none other than Gloria’s estranged husband, Thomas Alberto Tamayo Lizarraga. The two were going through a difficult divorce, something Gloria had bravely opened up about on her podcast HERizon just days before the incident. In that episode, she shared her plans to move on, to start fresh—not just for herself, but for her seven children.

Gloria was more than just a social media personality with over 150,000 followers. She was a mother, a role model, and a voice for women striving to reclaim their power and self-worth. Her death has left a void that stretches far beyond her immediate family. Her daughter Jazlynne has since created a GoFundMe campaign, sharing raw emotions about how their world has been turned upside down. "She always said, ‘Women can do anything they set their minds to,’ and she lived those words every day," Jazlynne wrote.
Hector Garduno, a father of four, was also killed in the attack. Both he and Gloria were rushed to the hospital but didn’t survive. The suspect, Lizarraga, was shot and killed by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy who happened to witness the shooting and intervened. It was a chaotic and tragic moment, but it likely prevented even more loss of life.
It’s painful to imagine the fear and confusion their children must be experiencing. Two families are now navigating the unimaginable—trying to grieve, to survive, and to find meaning in such an unthinkable act. The community has stepped up in support, donating thousands to both families’ GoFundMe pages, hoping to ease the financial burdens left behind.
What makes this even more difficult to process is that Gloria is not alone in this tragic trend. Recent weeks have seen a disturbing rise in violence against women influencers across Latin America and the U.S., with multiple cases showing patterns of domestic abuse leading to fatal outcomes. These incidents aren’t just headlines—they're harsh reminders that gender-based violence is still alarmingly prevalent.
Gloria Zamora should be remembered not for how she died, but for how she lived—with courage, resilience, and an unwavering belief in the strength of women. Let this be a moment not only of mourning, but of awareness. Her light was stolen, but her message—her fight for self-worth and freedom—must live on.
