Yankees Eye Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suárez to Ignite Lineup for Playoff Push
As the MLB trade deadline approaches, the New York Yankees are making waves—not for who’s returning from injury, but for who they might be bringing in. With an American League East title and a long-awaited World Series appearance in their sights, the Yankees are turning their attention toward Arizona, eyeing Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez as a potential solution to their ongoing offensive struggles.
Suárez, a veteran slugger with proven power, is having a standout season for Arizona despite the team's mid-tier standing in the NL West. With 21 home runs and 57 RBIs already under his belt, his production has caught the eyes of several contenders—none more so than the Yankees, who are desperate for a consistent bat to bolster their lineup. While his .233 batting average doesn’t jump off the page, his .834 OPS and ability to deliver in clutch situations make him a prime trade target.

Arizona GM Mike Hazen is known for being a sharp and decisive dealer, and with the Diamondbacks sitting in fourth place in the NL West, he may choose to retool rather than cling to a fading playoff chase. MLB insider Buster Olney recently listed Suárez among the most intriguing trade pieces available, and New York could be one of the most aggressive suitors.
A proposed deal might involve New York sending top pitching prospect Ben Hess and starter Clarke Schmidt—who’s posted a solid 3.16 ERA this season—to Arizona in exchange. While that’s a steep price, the Yankees’ recent rotation depth and looming returns of Luis Gil and Marcus Stroman could make such a trade feasible.
If the Yankees want to make a serious run in October, their infield power has to improve. Suárez offers exactly that—a high-upside slugger with the potential to shift the momentum in a tight AL East race.
