Yashasvi Jaiswal Ready to Conquer England, Says Ajinkya Rahane
As the much-anticipated India vs England Test series kicks off at Headingley, all eyes are on Yashasvi Jaiswal — the young left-hander who’s rapidly cementing his place in India’s red-ball lineup. And now, none other than Ajinkya Rahane, India’s seasoned Test veteran and former vice-captain, has thrown his full support behind the rising star. In a recent video, Rahane opened up about why he believes Jaiswal has the game and the mindset to thrive in English conditions — a battleground that has challenged even the best Indian batters over decades.
“He can control one end and accelerate when needed. Opening in England is never easy, but Yashasvi has the game for it,” said Rahane, underlining Jaiswal’s balance of patience and aggression. It’s high praise from someone who’s weathered plenty of English storms himself. Despite prior murmurs of tension between the two, Rahane’s comments now reflect respect and a sense of passing the baton.

Since debuting in 2023, Jaiswal has showcased the kind of temperament that is rare in such young players. He’s not only confident but remarkably consistent, especially for someone still fresh on the international circuit. This will be his first big overseas Test assignment in England, but with his talent, footwork, and adaptability, fans and pundits alike are optimistic.
Rahane didn’t stop at just Jaiswal. He also spotlighted the impact India’s bowling duo — Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj — could have in shaping the outcome of this tour. “Bumrah is a proven wicket-taker. I want to see him guide the younger bowlers and be a leader in those tough spells,” Rahane noted. For Siraj, his raw energy and sharp deliveries make him an ideal complement to Bumrah’s precision and experience.
With Shubman Gill stepping into the Test captaincy role, this series is as much about leadership evolution as it is about performance. Rahane acknowledged the steep challenge of transitioning to red-ball captaincy, saying, “Gill has potential. But Test cricket demands quick thinking and tactical sharpness — he'll need to stay ahead of the game.”
India’s tour of England has all the makings of a classic: young stars like Jaiswal, experienced campaigners like Bumrah, and the fresh leadership of Shubman Gill. If Jaiswal can find rhythm early, this series might well mark the rise of a new Indian Test stalwart — one who has Rahane’s full vote of confidence.
