ABC Bumps Up Fall Drama Premieres, Including ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘9-1-1’
Hey everyone, if you're a fan of high-stakes drama and life-or-death emergencies on TV, there’s some great news out of ABC. The network has just moved up the premiere dates for not one, not two, but three of its most talked-about drama series this fall. That includes the long-running hit Grey’s Anatomy , the adrenaline-pumping 9-1-1 , and the brand-new spinoff 9-1-1: Nashville .
Originally scheduled to air on October 16, all three shows will now debut a full week earlier—on Thursday, October 9 . That’s a nice little gift for fans who’ve been counting down the days to see what happens next, especially after last season’s wild cliffhangers and emotional twists.

The evening lineup is structured for maximum impact: 9-1-1 kicks off the night at 8 p.m. with its ninth season—this is the show’s third season on ABC after making the jump from Fox. Then at 9 p.m., we’re introduced to 9-1-1: Nashville , the latest entry in the Ryan Murphy franchise. And finally, the night wraps up at 10 p.m. with Grey’s Anatomy , returning for its astonishing 22nd season.
So what’s 9-1-1: Nashville all about? Picture this: emergency responders dealing with life-or-death calls in the heart of Tennessee, but layered with family drama and Southern glamour. It’s an action-heavy procedural that also dips into deeper storylines about power, legacy, and relationships. Chris O’Donnell stars as Captain Don Sharpe, alongside a pretty impressive cast including Jessica Capshaw, LeAnn Rimes, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley.
The flagship 9-1-1 continues to deliver with a powerhouse cast—Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, and more—under the guidance of executive producers Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear. And yes, the team behind the scenes of Nashville includes a lot of the same creative minds, so the new spinoff is in very experienced hands.
As for Grey’s Anatomy , it’s not slowing down anytime soon. After that intense Season 21 finale, Season 22 will roll out with 18 new episodes. Most of the core cast is returning, including Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., and Kevin McKidd. Plus, Debbie Allen continues to direct and serve as executive producer, alongside creator Shonda Rhimes and showrunner Meg Marinis.
ABC’s decision to push these premieres forward has definitely built up even more anticipation—and let’s be honest, Thursdays are now fully booked. So mark your calendars: October 9 is going to be a big night for drama fans.
