Biden’s Border Policies Under Fire After CBP Officer Shot in NYC
This past weekend, New York City became the tragic scene of a violent robbery that left an off-duty Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer hospitalized—shot in both the face and arm. But beyond the immediate horror of this attack lies a deeper, more unsettling issue that has reignited national debate: the consequences of sanctuary city policies and the federal government’s current approach to border security under President Joe Biden.
I want to talk about what happened and why this isn’t just a random act of violence—it’s a direct reflection of failed immigration policies and local political decisions that are putting American lives at risk.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited the officer in the hospital and made no effort to soften her words. She laid the blame squarely on New York City's sanctuary city policies and the broader failures of the Biden administration’s border enforcement. One of the suspects, Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, is an illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic. He was apprehended at the border in 2023, released into the country despite an active deportation order, and later linked to multiple crimes in New York and Massachusetts—including kidnapping and armed robbery.
Even more shocking is the fact that Nunez had been arrested four times in New York City prior to this shooting. But thanks to the city's sanctuary policies, he was released back into the streets every single time. His accomplice, Christhian Aybar-Berroa, also an illegal immigrant, had a similarly concerning criminal record that was ignored. ICE detainers were left unacknowledged, and now a federal officer is fighting for his life because of it.

The off-duty CBP officer was sitting with a friend by the Hudson River when two men pulled up on a scooter. One of them drew a firearm and attempted to rob them. In a split-second decision, the officer defended himself with his service weapon, striking one of the suspects. While he succeeded in protecting himself and his friend, he was severely injured in the exchange.
This isn’t just about New York City. Noem called out leaders from across the country—Mayor Wu in Boston, Mayor Bass in LA, Mayor Johnson in Chicago—highlighting how progressive sanctuary policies have turned these major cities into safe havens for criminals. She said it bluntly: “Sanctuary cities are sanctuaries for criminals.”
This shooting didn’t have to happen. And that’s the most painful part. It was avoidable—if only immigration laws had been enforced, if only local officials had cooperated with federal authorities, and if only public safety was truly prioritized over political posturing.
President Biden’s border policies are not just about numbers and immigration debates—they have real, tragic consequences. His administration’s failure to secure the border and enforce deportation orders has now contributed to yet another senseless act of violence.
The CBP officer, despite his injuries, demonstrated courage and quick thinking. His actions likely saved two lives that night—his own and his friend's. But as we send him our prayers and wish for his recovery, we also need to demand accountability. Not just for the criminals involved, but for every policy and politician who allowed them to remain free.
It's time to stop treating this like a political talking point and start treating it like the public safety crisis it truly is.
