Boult’s Double Strike Rocks Freedom as MLC 2025 Final Begins with Drama
The grand finale of Major League Cricket 2025 is underway, and what an electric start we've witnessed at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas! Washington Freedom is up against MI New York in what promises to be an epic clash, and let me tell you — the drama started right from the first over!
Washington Freedom won the toss and decided to bowl first, hoping to utilize the pitch conditions under the lights. And MI New York, led by some classic T20 firepower, posted a solid 180/7 in their 20 overs. At one point, they looked set for 200-plus, thanks to a blistering start by Quinton de Kock. He was absolutely masterful — reading the pitch like an open book and taking apart the bowlers with ease. MINY were cruising at 148/2 and looked unstoppable.

But then came the twist. In a dramatic collapse triggered by Washington’s bowling unit, especially Saurabh Netravalkar, the scoreboard turned on its head. From 148/2, MINY slumped to 166/7 — that’s five wickets for just 18 runs in less than 20 balls! Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Maxwell, and Jack Edwards joined the wicket-taking party, showing incredible control and variation. Kunwarjeet Singh’s late boundaries helped push the score to a respectable 180, but one could argue that MINY left 15-20 runs out there, considering the start they had.
Then came the absolute stunner. The chase began, and boom — two wickets in the very first over! Trent Boult was on fire. He dismissed Mitchell Owen with a short ball pulled straight into the hands of deep square leg. One ball later, Andries Gous was out too — a brilliant catch by none other than Kieron Pollard. Two down, zero on the board, and just five deliveries bowled. Washington Freedom were in deep trouble right away.
This opening over from Boult is one for the history books. We always say finals bring out the best in legends, and Boult showed exactly why he’s one of the finest white-ball bowlers in the world.
But here’s the thing — it’s still very much game on. Washington Freedom has the batting depth to pull this off. Glenn Maxwell, Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips — all match-winners. They’ve chased down similar targets in the past. The pitch has some assistance for slower balls, so it won’t be an easy chase, but it’s definitely within reach.
What a way to wrap up MLC 2025 — two elite teams, some thrilling cricket, and a final that’s already living up to its billing. If the rest of the match is anything like the first over, we’re in for an unforgettable ride. Stay tuned — this one’s far from over!
