Dangerous Storm System to Hit Ontario This Weekend With Hail and Damaging Winds
Hey folks, if you’re in Ontario and have outdoor plans this weekend, you might want to keep a very close eye on the weather radar. A powerful and potentially dangerous storm system is heading our way, and things are expected to escalate pretty quickly—especially starting Friday and intensifying right into Sunday.
Let me break this down for you. We’re entering a three-day stretch of active and severe weather across much of the province. It starts Friday afternoon, particularly in the southern regions near Windsor and Sarnia. That area, close to the Michigan border, could see some of the earlier storms forming—bringing with them strong wind gusts and the chance for small hail. Some of those storms might drift toward London and even the western edges of the Greater Toronto Area, though they’re expected to be a bit weaker over there.
But the real trouble starts on Saturday.

A low pressure system will move in from the west, targeting northeastern Ontario and areas along Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. We’re talking about an unstable atmosphere loaded with moisture and heat—prime ingredients for severe weather. In fact, Saturday afternoon could see some rotating storms, especially in regions like Sudbury and North Bay. That means not only heavy rain and hail but possibly dangerous wind gusts over 90 km/h. Rainfall amounts could hit between 30 and 50 mm in a very short span, enough to disrupt travel or flood low-lying areas.
Storms are also expected to pop up inland from Grand Bend, through Kincardine, all the way to Parry Sound by late Saturday. These could carry hail larger than two centimetres and pack a serious punch in terms of wind and rain.
By Saturday night, the system will begin shifting south, making its way toward the GTA. While it might lose a bit of its bite, the energy isn’t gone. In fact, Sunday could bring a whole new round of thunderstorm activity for eastern Ontario and the Toronto area. High humidity and unstable air are sticking around, which means storm conditions will continue to develop throughout the day.
The timing of each wave might shift a bit, as is always the case with summer storms, but the overall pattern is clear: this weekend will be stormy, messy, and potentially dangerous for large swaths of Ontario.
