Dolphins Sign CB Jack Jones Following Artie Burns Injury
Alright, here’s what’s happening with the Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jack Jones.
So, after Dolphins veteran corner Artie Burns unfortunately tore his ACL earlier this week, Miami had to act fast to fill the gap in their secondary. And that’s exactly what they did. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have reached a one-year deal with cornerback Jack Jones — someone who has experience, playmaking ability, and a bit of a rollercoaster history in the league.
Jones was originally a fourth-round draft pick by the New England Patriots back in 2022. He showed promise early on, but things didn’t exactly go smoothly during his time in New England. He ended up being waived in November 2023 after reportedly being benched for missing team curfew during a road trip. That’s when the Las Vegas Raiders stepped in, picking him up off waivers.

And honestly? He made the most of that opportunity. In the 2024 season, Jones started 16 of the 17 games he played with the Raiders. He racked up 69 tackles, grabbed three interceptions, and even took one of those picks all the way back for a touchdown. He clearly made an impact on the field.
However, despite that solid season, things shifted again when the Raiders underwent a front-office and coaching staff overhaul. Jones was released as part of those changes. So now, Miami becomes the next stop in his journey.
What makes this signing especially relevant is the Dolphins’ current situation at cornerback. Aside from veteran Xavien Howard being gone and with Burns now injured, the remaining group — including names like Kader Kohou, Cam Smith, Storm Duck, and Kendall Sheffield — is relatively young and untested. That opens the door for Jack Jones to potentially step in and earn a starting role, especially with his recent production.
Now, for those following Jones off the field, it’s worth noting he had a bit of legal trouble back in 2023 when he was arrested at Boston Logan Airport for carrying two loaded firearms in his luggage. Those charges were eventually dropped, but it did raise questions about his off-field decision-making at the time. That said, he seems to have refocused since then, and his time in Las Vegas showed he can deliver when given the chance.
So in short: the Dolphins needed a veteran cornerback, and Jack Jones brings both experience and playmaking ability. Now it’s just a matter of seeing whether he can grab that starting spot and provide the consistency the Dolphins' secondary desperately needs this season.
