Dortmund Dominates Siegen 8:1 in Preseason Goal Fest
So here's what went down in Dortmund's first preseason test match ahead of the 2025/26 campaign — and wow, it was a statement. Borussia Dortmund absolutely cruised past Sportfreunde Siegen with a convincing 8:1 win, and most of the damage was already done by halftime.
The game was played in front of a sold-out crowd at Siegen’s Leimbachstadion — the first full house since its renovation in 2005 — with over 18,000 fans showing up for this midweek friendly. And they got goals. Lots of them.
Right from the start, it was clear that BVB meant business. Even though a few big names like Gregor Kobel, Gio Reyna, and new striker Serhou Guirassy were rested due to training management, the team fielded was still stacked — and boosted by a handful of promising talents from the U23 and U19 squads.

The scoring was kicked off in the 13th minute when Elias Benkara, in his first-ever outing with the pros, nodded home from close range. Just minutes later, Yan Couto smashed in a volley to make it 2:0 after a sharp assist from Julian Brandt. And then, the floodgates opened.
Sabitzer got the third in the 25th, and soon after, Karim Adeyemi muscled through two defenders to slot in the fourth. The fifth and sixth goals came courtesy of Brandt — he was absolutely everywhere — tapping one in and then heading another just two minutes later. Siegen did pull one back just before halftime through Josue Santo, but it was 6:1 at the break. Brutal.
In the second half, Dortmund manager Niko Kovac swapped out the entire starting lineup — a full eleven change. Things cooled off slightly from there. Siegen even got a few looks at goal, especially from set pieces. But Dortmund’s new keeper Patrick Drewes handled things well.
Eventually, more goals came. Maximilian Beier added the seventh in the 66th minute after a clean breakaway, and Ayman Azhil pounced on a goalkeeper error to seal the final scoreline at 8:1. Nmecha even hit the post late on, and Julian Ryerson had to clear one off the line as Siegen pushed for a second. But no more goals were scored.
So yeah, a comfortable and dominant first outing for BVB. Sharp finishing, promising youth involvement, and a great confidence boost to kick off preseason. If this is how they’re warming up, the rest of the summer — and the season — should be fun to watch.
