DroneShield Launches Major Expansion Amid Rising Global Defence Demands
DroneShield has just made a major move, and if you're keeping an eye on Australia's defence technology sector—or even the global counter-drone market—this is something you need to know. The company has committed a massive $13 million towards expanding its research, development, and manufacturing capabilities, signaling not only growth but a strong response to the increasing geopolitical tensions worldwide.
Now, here's the real headline: DroneShield is opening a brand-new 3,000-square-metre production facility in Alexandria, Sydney, by December 2025. That’s more than three times the size of its existing facility. This space will be fully equipped with advanced in-house production, testing, and warehousing—everything needed to ramp up both quality and output.

But that’s not all. The company is also adding another 2,500 square metres to its research and development area. And interestingly, the current production floor isn’t being scrapped—it’s being converted into additional R&D space. That means a total of 5,530 square metres will soon be dedicated purely to engineering and innovation. This is DroneShield’s biggest facility to date.
What’s driving this rapid scale-up? According to CEO Oleg Vornik, it’s about staying ahead in an increasingly volatile world. He pointed out the rise in global conflict and threats, especially those involving drones, and emphasized that Australia's allies are investing more than ever in next-generation defence tech. DroneShield is rising to that challenge by building state-of-the-art infrastructure and upskilling its workforce with a focus on sovereign capabilities.
This expansion isn't just limited to Australia. The company is planning to establish contract manufacturing in Europe and the U.S. as well. Altogether, their current annual manufacturing capacity of $500 million is projected to soar to $2.4 billion by the end of 2026. That’s nearly a five-fold increase.
The timing of this announcement is no coincidence either. It comes hot on the heels of DroneShield’s $61.6 million contract win in Europe—the largest in its history—along with other recent wins including a $9.7 million contract in Latin America and an $11.7 million research and development deal with the Five Eyes alliance.
So if you're following the ASX under the ticker "DRO", this might be a signal to watch closely. DroneShield isn’t just reacting to global demand—it’s preparing to lead it. Whether you're an investor, a tech enthusiast, or someone tracking global defence trends, this bold expansion underlines just how critical and fast-evolving the counter-drone space has become.
