So, Happy Gilmore 2 is finally here — yes, after nearly 30 years — and the cast lineup is absolutely insane. Adam Sandler is back, of course, as the iconic hockey-player-turned-golfer Happy Gilmore, and he’s not coming alone. Almost every major character from the original has returned, including Julie Bowen as Virginia, Christopher McDonald as the unforgettable Shooter McGavin, and Ben Stiller as the hilariously creepy Hal. But here’s where things get wild — Eminem is in the movie. Yup, that Eminem.
His appearance isn’t just some blink-and-you-miss-it background cameo either — although, to be fair, he is almost unrecognizable at first. He’s rocking a bucket hat and a beard, and he shows up on the golf course as one of Happy’s new rivals. The best part? He channels that intense, slightly unhinged energy we all know him for, and he delivers a perfectly timed jab at Happy. In a scene that echoes the classic “jackass” heckler from the first film — originally played by Joe Flaherty — Eminem gets under Gilmore’s skin and even ends the exchange by calling him “a jackass.” It’s subtle, but it’s a total mic drop moment that fans of both the movie and the rapper will love.
According to Sandler, shooting with Eminem was a blast. He said in an interview that Eminem hung out on set all day and was just throwing out line after line. They ended up with so much footage, it sounds like they could’ve made an entire featurette out of just his scenes. Sandler described it as “insane” — in the best way. Apparently, Eminem was as funny as he was intense, which made him a perfect fit for this ridiculous, over-the-top comedy.
But it’s not just Em. The sequel is packed with cameos from athletes, musicians, comedians — you name it. Travis Kelce, Bad Bunny, Steve Buscemi, Rory McIlroy, Becky Lynch, and even legends like John Daly and Jack Nicklaus make appearances. It’s a wild mix, and it somehow works perfectly. The vibe is chaotic, hilarious, and oddly nostalgic.
What’s really cool is how the movie manages to pay tribute to the original while also moving the story forward. Happy’s older now — he’s got kids, he works at a grocery store, and he’s trying to raise money to send his daughter to ballet school in Paris. But once again, he’s drawn back to golf. And once again, the stakes are personal.
Happy Gilmore 2 is clearly made by people who love the original — and who know the fans do too. So yeah, if you’re wondering whether it lives up to the hype… well, let’s just say when Eminem’s calling Adam Sandler a jackass on a golf course, you know you’re watching something special.
