Ex-Marine Wanted After Shocking ICE Facility Ambush in Texas
I want to talk about something serious—something that’s been making headlines and raising deep concerns. A violent ambush unfolded at the Prairieland ICE Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, on the night of July 4th, and at the center of it is a man named Benjamin Hanil Song .
Authorities have identified Song as a 32-year-old former U.S. Marine Corps Reservist from Dallas, and he’s now the subject of a statewide Blue Alert , which is only issued in cases where a law enforcement officer has been seriously hurt or killed and the suspect poses a continued threat to the public. According to federal documents, Song allegedly took part in a coordinated and violent assault targeting federal and local officers.

Here’s what we know: investigators say Song, armed with two AR-15-style rifles—one reportedly modified with a binary trigger to increase its rate of fire—was hiding in the woods near the facility. While his co-conspirators distracted officers by drawing them outside using graffiti and 911 calls, Song allegedly opened fire, shooting around 20 to 30 rounds toward unarmed corrections officers. A responding officer from the Alvarado Police Department was shot in the neck . Thankfully, he survived and was released from the hospital.
What’s more disturbing is how calculated the attack appears. Authorities say Song and the group of at least 11 other suspects wore tactical gear, used body armor, and carried two-way radios. Some even had Faraday bags , devices used to block cell signals—clearly a planned effort to avoid detection. They also found flyers with anti-government slogans and signs of radical ideology.
Song served in the Marine Corps Reserves from 2011 to 2016 before receiving an “other than honorable” discharge. Now, he faces six federal charges , including three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer and three related to discharging a firearm in a crime of violence. The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. They’re urging anyone with details to contact them immediately—Song is considered armed and dangerous .
It’s chilling to think about. This wasn’t a spontaneous act of protest or dissent—it was an organized ambush, one that could’ve easily ended in multiple deaths. The authorities acted quickly and captured 10 suspects at the scene. But Benjamin Song slipped away, at least for now.
Let’s be clear: violence like this isn’t activism. It’s terrorism. And law enforcement officials say they’re doing everything they can to track down Song and bring him to justice. If you see something, say something. You can call 1-800-CALL-FBI or leave a tip at fbi.gov/prairieland .
The public’s help is critical—because until Song is found, there’s a real threat still out there.
