Farewell to a Radiant Star: Remembering Actress Lee Seo Yi
It’s always hard to talk about loss, especially when it involves someone who left a quiet but meaningful impact on many lives. Today, I want to share a few words about the late South Korean actress Lee Seo Yi , whose sudden passing has left the entertainment industry and her fans in a state of deep sorrow.
Lee Seo Yi, born Song Soo Yeon , passed away on June 20, 2025 , at the age of 43 . The heartbreaking news was made public by her manager on July 1 through a heartfelt post on her official social media account. While the exact cause of her death has not been disclosed, the message conveyed by her manager—written with a heavy heart—called her “a radiant, beautiful, kind-hearted sister who became a star in the sky.”

For those unfamiliar with her, Lee Seo Yi may not have been a household name globally, but in Korea, she was respected and admired for her dedication, authenticity, and emotional range on screen. She made her official acting debut back in 2013 in the MBC historical drama Hur Jun, The Original Story . One of her most recognized roles came in 2014 with the SBS drama Cheongdam-dong Scandal , where her performance was lauded for its sincerity and depth.
Her work extended beyond television as well, with appearances in films like The King and Killing Romance . She wasn’t just another face on screen—she brought a certain heartfelt nuance to every role she played. Even more impressively, she was highly accomplished academically, having majored in Czech and Slovak studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies , and later continued her education at Pusan National University’s graduate school. That balance of intellect and artistry made her presence even more unique in the industry.
What makes this loss even more difficult to process is that Lee Seo Yi remained active in the industry until quite recently. She was appearing in tvN’s drama The Divorce Insurance as late as May this year, showing no signs of slowing down or stepping away from her craft.
Fans and colleagues alike have taken to social media to express their grief and offer tributes. Many described her as gentle, kind, and deeply professional—a person who brought light not only through her acting but through her very presence. And that’s perhaps the hardest part about this loss: the silence left behind by someone who didn’t just entertain us, but also inspired and touched those who knew her or followed her work.
As we remember her, let’s honor Lee Seo Yi not just as an actress, but as a woman of depth, grace, and quiet strength. May she rest in peace, and may her legacy continue to live on through the roles she left behind and the hearts she moved.
