Heat Rises as Stormy Skies Clear Over Kentucky

Hey everyone, hope you're staying safe and cool out there. Let's talk about the weather that’s been making headlines around Kentucky and nearby states. After a wild, soggy, and storm-filled weekend, things are finally starting to calm down—but not without leaving a mark.

We kicked off this week with lingering humidity across central and eastern Kentucky after some serious storms rolled through. Flash flooding was reported in a few areas, especially over the weekend, as heavy rains poured down relentlessly. Monday brought a bit of relief—fewer storms, but it was still muggy out there. Highs hit the mid-80s, though with the humidity, it definitely felt warmer than that.

Now here’s the good news: that stalled front that’s been hanging over us is finally moving southward. By Tuesday, we’re going to see a noticeable drop in rain chances. Drier air is expected to make its way into the Ohio Valley, and sunshine will return in full force. But with that sunshine comes the heat. We’re talking highs in the upper 80s, and with the humidity, it’ll feel like it’s brushing up against 100 degrees. So, if you’ve got outdoor plans, hydrate and try to avoid those peak heat hours—typically around 1 to 5 PM.

Looking ahead to midweek, things turn even hotter. An upper-level ridge is building in, acting like a lid that traps all the heat and keeps the rain at bay. Wednesday and Thursday will likely be the hottest days of the week. Expect highs in the low 90s, and again, those heat index values are going to flirt with triple digits. Not ideal if you’re not a fan of the heat, but hey, at least it’s mostly dry.

But don’t get too comfortable, because as we roll into Friday and the weekend, another slow-moving front is on its way. That means scattered showers and thunderstorms are back in the forecast. These will be more hit-or-miss, but they could bring some locally heavy downpours. Temperatures will stay up in the low 90s, so it’s going to be that classic steamy Kentucky summer vibe.

For those of you in areas like Louisville, Bowling Green, and surrounding counties, the National Weather Service had issued a flood watch recently, and while that expires by Monday night, the risk of flash flooding can return quickly with any of those pop-up storms later in the week. So, stay weather-aware, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas.

All in all, we’re looking at a rollercoaster of weather this week—cooler and calmer early on, a dry heat midweek, then a wet and steamy weekend. Whether you're working, vacationing, or just trying to enjoy the summer, keep an eye on those temps and stay safe.
