Hidden Camera Scandal Shocks Austin Hospital Staff
A troubling incident has shaken the medical community and staff at one of Melbourne’s leading hospitals. A junior doctor at The Austin Hospital has been arrested following the discovery of a hidden camera in a staff-only bathroom—a violation that has triggered shock, concern, and a deep sense of betrayal among colleagues.
It all started on July 3 when hospital staff made a disturbing discovery in a restricted bathroom area—what appeared to be a mobile phone set up covertly to record footage. The discovery was quickly reported, and Victoria Police were notified. Investigators believe the device had been recording for some time before it was found.
Police swiftly moved into action. Early on the morning of July 10, officers raided the home of a 27-year-old man in Heidelberg West, who was identified as a junior doctor and trainee surgeon at the hospital. He was arrested on-site and is now being interviewed by detectives from the Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team.

Austin Health responded by stating that they take the safety and well-being of their staff "extremely seriously." According to their official statement, the hospital made a formal report to the police as soon as the matter came to light. While the investigation is ongoing, they are limited in what they can disclose, but they’ve committed to keeping staff informed.
In a hospital-wide email, Austin Health CEO Jodie Geissler acknowledged the difficult situation and its potential emotional impact on staff, particularly those who worked in the affected area. She emphasized that the hospital is prioritizing support for those directly impacted and promised further updates as more information becomes available.
Meanwhile, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has been contacted for comment, though they have yet to issue a public statement.
This incident raises broader questions about privacy, trust, and professional conduct in medical environments. For a junior doctor—someone entrusted with care and ethics—to allegedly breach such basic human rights is not just criminal, but deeply damaging to the integrity of the healthcare system.
Investigations are ongoing, and anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers. As we wait for further developments, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and stronger safeguards in workplaces—especially those built on trust and care.
