At 33, Hicks decided to hang up the cleats after wrapping up a season with the Cleveland Browns, where he started 12 games in 2024. His career numbers are seriously impressive—952 tackles, 16.5 sacks, and 13 interceptions over 131 games. He didn’t just make noise on the stat sheet either; he played with heart and was known for his leadership in the locker room.

His journey started back in 2015 when he was picked 84th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the draft. By his second season, he had become a full-time starter. And while an injury sidelined him during the latter half of the Eagles’ iconic 2017 Super Bowl-winning run, he was still very much part of that championship DNA. The next season, he came back strong, posting 91 tackles and 3 sacks.
His performance earned him a four-year, $36 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals, and he made the most of it. In 2019 alone, he put up a career-high 150 tackles. That kicked off a run of four straight seasons with at least 100 tackles—a level of consistency that most linebackers dream of. He later moved on to the Vikings and then to Cleveland, where he wrapped up his NFL story.
Now, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Injuries did take their toll, especially in the later years. In 2023, he was even hospitalized for a leg injury during a game with the Vikings. And just last season, a concussion kept him out of the Browns’ final matchup. Still, Hicks left it all out on the field, which he acknowledged in his retirement message.
