Katherine Ryan Brings the Laughs and Realness as She Hits Red Carpet with Her Family
Katherine Ryan is back in the spotlight, and not just for her comedy this time—but for a heartwarming and hilarious red carpet moment with her whole family. The Canadian comedian, known for her razor-sharp wit and unapologetic honesty, made a rare public appearance with her husband Bobby Kootstra and their children Violet, Fred, and Fenna to celebrate her latest role in The Bad Guys 2 .
Rocking a stunning pink rose-print maxi dress and her signature confidence, Katherine looked radiant as she posed on the red carpet at the film’s London screening in Leicester Square. But what really stole the show was her candid commentary—on motherhood, her animated movie role, and the unique joys (and battles) of parenting.

In The Bad Guys 2 , Katherine voices Maureen, the hyper-organized assistant to governor Diane Foxington (voiced by Zazie Beetz). Though it's a cameo, Katherine calls it “the absolute central character” with a wink, keeping her classic sense of humour front and centre. She joked on Instagram that her kids were blown away not just by the heists, comedy, and romance in the film, but most importantly, by her performance . She gushed that it was “the best morning at the cinema” and underlined how vital it is to get families into theatres to keep films like this alive.
But that wasn't the only news swirling around Katherine. The 8 Out of 10 Cats star also opened up on Heart Radio about being pregnant with her fourth child—and feeling “a bit dejected” at the idea it might be another boy. With daughters Violet and Fenna and a son, Fred, already in the mix, Katherine admitted she's hoping for another girl. In true comedic form, she explained her “gender disappointment” by joking that her four-year-old son is already a “toxic male,” complete with nursery drop-offs that involve imaginary sword threats from the back seat.
She’s always leaned into honesty about motherhood. From pregnancy secrecy during her time hosting Ready to Mingle —because of industry insurance fears—to heartbreaking miscarriages in the past, Katherine has never shied away from speaking the truth, even when it's hard. “I used to think I was the babies’ dad because I work,” she recently shared, “but now I feel more like a fun grandma.”
Through all the ups and downs, she continues to balance comedy and vulnerability, all while raising a vibrant family and sharing the chaos with her audience. Whether it’s an animated assistant on the big screen or a brutal truth on the radio, Katherine Ryan proves once again that being real—especially about motherhood—is her most powerful role yet.
