Kelly Osbourne Mourns the Loss of Her Father, Ozzy

It’s hard to believe, but the legendary Ozzy Osbourne has passed away. The world lost the “Prince of Darkness” on July 22nd, at the age of 76, and honestly, for many of us, it still hasn’t fully sunk in. One of the most recognizable voices and personas in rock history is gone, leaving behind a huge void—not just in music, but in the hearts of millions of fans, and of course, in his family.

A few days after the announcement of his death, his daughter Kelly Osbourne finally broke her silence. She took to Instagram and, in a simple but deeply emotional black-and-white post, wrote: “I lost my best friend. I am so sad,” accompanied by a broken heart emoji. Those few words carried the weight of a lifetime of love and loss. She also included a lyric from the song “Changes,” which is incredibly significant because she and Ozzy had re-recorded it together back in 2003. It had been a deeply personal moment for them—one that now takes on a whole new layer of meaning.

Ozzy, whose real name was John Michael Osbourne, wasn’t just a heavy metal icon with hits like Paranoid , Crazy Train , and Iron Man —he was also a father, a brother, and, for many who watched The Osbournes reality show, a surprisingly endearing and funny man. The show gave the world a glimpse into the chaotic but loving life of the Osbourne family, and it made a rock god feel human.

In his final years, Ozzy had been struggling with his health, including Parkinson’s disease, but that never stopped him from giving what he could to his fans. Just weeks before his passing, he took the stage one last time in Birmingham, his hometown. Though visibly weakened and performing while seated, he was still cracking jokes, still connecting with his audience, still Ozzy . He ended that performance by saying, “You have no idea how I feel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

His sisters, Jean Powell and Gillian Hemming, shared how emotional that last show was. Jean remembered Ozzy texting her after passing their childhood home, stunned by the crowd waiting to see him. And even though he was physically fragile, he had promised he’d be back in Birmingham again soon. Tragically, that moment never came.

His death has left his family shattered. Jean and Gillian spoke about how he would call or text every week without fail—just to check in. That silence now is one of the hardest things to accept.

Through Kelly’s voice, we hear the deepest pain—a daughter saying goodbye not just to a music legend, but to her best friend. Ozzy’s legacy will live on in his songs, his fans, and most tenderly, in the memories of those who knew him best.
