Leeds United Sign Lucas Perri in Goalkeeping Shake-Up
Big news out of Elland Road—Leeds United have officially secured the signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri from Lyon. This move marks the club’s seventh signing of what’s been a very busy summer transfer window under manager Daniel Farke. Perri has put pen to paper on a four-year deal, although the move remains subject to a work permit and international clearance.
At 27, Perri brings a wealth of experience and a solid recent track record. Last season, he made 45 appearances for Lyon across all competitions and managed to keep 13 clean sheets. That kind of consistency helped the French side secure European football for the upcoming campaign. His performances didn’t just make waves in Ligue 1—he also featured in Lyon’s run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and was part of the squad that reached the final of the 2024 Coupe de France.

Lucas began his career at São Paulo in Brazil, where he broke into the first team and later gained further experience with a loan spell at Náutico. But it was his time at Botafogo that really put him on the European radar. The 6’5” stopper stood out in Brazil’s top flight with commanding performances, eventually earning him a move to Lyon.
Now, with Illan Meslier likely on the way out after a tough season, Perri steps in as Leeds’ new number one. It’s a significant change in goalkeeping strategy, and fans will be eager to see how he adapts to the pace and pressure of the Premier League.
Beyond club football, Perri has represented Brazil at the U20 and U23 levels and even received a senior national team call-up in September 2023. That international experience adds even more credibility to his signing.
The deal is reported to be worth around €16 million and follows a string of other major additions to strengthen the squad after Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season. With their season opener against Everton just around the corner, the timing of this signing couldn’t be better.
All eyes will be on Perri now, and if his recent form is anything to go by, Leeds fans might finally have a reliable long-term solution between the posts.
