Li Yueru Makes Powerful Statement in Return to Seattle

It was a night full of meaning and momentum for Li Yueru, who returned to Seattle for the first time since being traded to the Dallas Wings just over a month ago. And let’s just say — she made her presence felt.

Playing inside Climate Pledge Arena again, but this time in a Wings jersey, Li didn’t just show up — she showed out. She grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, added 8 points, and helped lead Dallas to an emphatic 87–63 win over the Seattle Storm. It was not only one of the most dominant wins of the season for Dallas but also one of their largest victories over Seattle in franchise history.

But for Li, it wasn’t just about the numbers. As she admitted after the game, nerves were definitely in the mix. She didn’t feel entirely comfortable offensively, so she focused on other ways to contribute — and it paid off. One early moment that stood out was when Dallas had stumbled out to an 8–0 deficit with six turnovers. Li calmly stepped up and knocked down a top-of-the-key three-pointer that helped steady the team and flip the energy.

Her rebounding was key all night long, helping Dallas dominate the glass 48–34. And beyond the box score, her presence in the paint brought poise, size, and much-needed spacing to the Wings lineup — a dimension that had been missing earlier in the season.

Since being traded, Li has become an increasingly reliable part of the Dallas frontcourt, averaging nearly 9 points and over 7 rebounds per game, while shooting an efficient 46.8% from the floor and an impressive 43.5% from deep. Her free throw percentage? A rock-solid 85.7%.

Wings head coach Chris Koclanes had nothing but praise, saying that she’s embraced the team’s approach to gang rebounding and has become a consistent, trusted contributor. More importantly, her teammates believe in her — and that’s something Li says has made all the difference.

“They believe in me,” she said after the win. “Even when I’m not scoring, they trust me to stay on the court and help in other ways. That gives me confidence, and I just want to keep getting better.”

The chemistry with teammate Luisa Geiselsöder is growing too, with both bigs finding a natural rhythm in balancing each other’s strengths. Tuesday night was just the second time since joining Dallas that Li pulled down double-digit rebounds, and it couldn’t have come at a better moment — helping the Wings snap a four-game losing streak and close out the second half with a dominant 53–27 advantage.

It wasn’t just a homecoming. It was a statement — one of growth, trust, and impact. And for Li Yueru, it might just be the start of something big in Dallas.
