Manchester Airport Launches First UK Direct Flights to Bangkok Outside London
Hey everyone, here's some really exciting news coming out of Manchester Airport—big enough to make global travelers and aviation fans stop and take notice. For the first time ever, Manchester Airport is set to become the only UK airport outside London offering direct flights to Bangkok , Thailand’s bustling capital and officially the most-visited city in the world.
This brand-new route is being launched in collaboration with Norse Atlantic Airways , a bold, fast-growing long-haul airline. Flights are set to begin on November 26, 2025 , and will operate weekly throughout the winter season until March 2026. They’ll be using a state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner , known for its fuel efficiency and comfort over long distances.
This is a huge deal for travelers from the North of England. Until now, anyone heading to Bangkok had to make a connecting stop—usually in London, the Middle East, or a major European hub. But with this direct link, those painful layovers are a thing of the past. You’ll be able to fly straight from Manchester to Thailand in one comfortable hop.

The timing couldn’t be better either. Bangkok sees peak travel demand during the UK winter months, when the Thai climate is dry, warm, and perfect for exploring temples, islands, markets, and its incredible nightlife. In fact, over 32 million people visited Bangkok in 2024 alone. It’s not just a popular tourist destination; it’s also a launching pad for adventures across Southeast Asia.
Manchester Airport’s Managing Director, Chris Woodroofe , called this a proud milestone, adding that the route isn’t just about helping Brits reach Thailand—it’s also an invitation for Thai travelers to discover everything the North of England has to offer. From Premier League football to stunning national parks and world-class universities, there’s plenty for incoming visitors to experience.
This move comes hot on the heels of Manchester Airport launching the North’s first direct connection to Mumbai , which took off just days before. Both new routes reflect the airport’s ambition to truly become a global gateway , not just for Manchester but for the entire North of England.
The airport’s £1.3 billion transformation is also nearly complete, with a completely overhauled Terminal 2 that’s now double its original size. Once fully operational later this year, it will handle about 70% of the airport’s passengers. And that’s not all—it’s already won the prestigious Prix Versailles for its stunning architectural design.
As for Norse Atlantic Airways, their CEO Bjørn Tore Larsen summed it up perfectly: “We don’t just follow demand—we unlock it.” This new route is not just about numbers, but about connecting cultures, opening up adventure, and making long-haul travel more accessible and enjoyable.
So whether you're dreaming of Thai street food, ancient temples, or island-hopping through the Andaman Sea, Manchester Airport just made that dream a whole lot closer. This winter, Bangkok is just one direct flight away.
