Mariners Bring Back Eugenio Suárez in Blockbuster Trade

So, here’s some exciting news for Mariners fans — Eugenio Suárez is heading back to Seattle! The fan-favorite third baseman, known for his infectious “Good Vibes Only” motto and power at the plate, has officially been traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks back to the Mariners. This move is already stirring up emotions, especially among fans and teammates who remember just how impactful Suárez was during his first stint in Seattle.

To rewind a bit: Suárez originally joined the Mariners back in 2022 in a major post-lockout trade and quickly became a core part of their offense. Over his two seasons there, he crushed a combined 53 home runs and was beloved in the clubhouse. But due to some cost-cutting efforts during the 2023–24 offseason, Seattle made the tough decision to move him to Arizona. At the time, it was all about reworking the payroll and reshaping the offense.

Fast forward to 2025 — and Suárez is back, better than ever. This season, he’s been on an absolute tear. We’re talking four NL Player of the Week awards and a four-homer game against the Braves that instantly etched his name into the history books. He was even selected to the All-Star Game for the second time and recently notched his sixth 30-homer season. His 36 home runs are now the most hit by any player in a season before being traded midyear — breaking Mark McGwire’s record of 34 back in 1997.

Even though his defensive metrics at third base have slipped a bit this season, his performance over the last two years had been consistently solid — and his bat more than makes up for it. It’s wild to think that just over a year ago, he was batting under .200 and was nearly designated for assignment. But ever since, he’s completely turned things around, slashing .311/.359/.607 from June 2024 onward and almost singlehandedly keeping the Diamondbacks' postseason hopes alive. Arizona picked up his $15 million option for 2025, and clearly, he’s lived up to every dollar of it.

Now back in Seattle, Suárez rejoins a team with serious offensive firepower. Between him and Cal Raleigh — who leads the league with 41 homers — the Mariners have become just the second team in MLB history to enter August with two players sitting on 35+ home runs. The only other team to do that? The legendary 1961 Yankees with Mantle and Maris. That’s some elite company.

Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford summed it up best: “Real thrilled to bring the 'Good Vibes' back for sure.” Fans are thrilled too — and if their pitching staff can steady out, this could be the piece that turns Seattle into a legit championship contender.
