Maxwell’s Heroics Seal 4-0 Lead as Australia Edges Windies in St Kitts Thriller

It was another electrifying night of cricket in St Kitts, where Australia pulled off a thrilling three-wicket win over the West Indies to take a commanding 4-0 lead in the T20 series. And right at the heart of the action? Glenn Maxwell – doing Glenn Maxwell things.

The match was full of fireworks, and it all started with the West Indies being sent in to bat for the fourth time in as many games this series. They posted a formidable 9-205 on the board, thanks to solid cameos from Sherfane Rutherford, Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, and Rovman Powell. Despite the regular loss of wickets, the Windies managed to put up their second consecutive 200-plus score.

But while the batters did their job, the fielding unit of Australia, led by Maxwell, turned the tide. He was absolutely everywhere – taking two brilliant catches, including a jaw-dropping boundary-line assist where he flicked the ball back mid-air for Cameron Green to complete the grab. One of those moments that’ll make every highlight reel.

Maxwell didn’t stop there. With the bat, he exploded with 47 off just 18 balls, clubbing four sixes in five deliveries to make a daunting chase suddenly look manageable. Although he fell short of his fifty, he’d already done the damage. Josh Inglis gave the innings a blazing start as well, racing to a 28-ball half-century. And Cameron Green once again showed maturity beyond his years, anchoring the finish with an unbeaten 55.

At one point, things got tense. Australia lost a cluster of wickets in the middle overs, with Jediah Blades grabbing three, and for a moment it looked like West Indies might sneak a consolation win. But Green and Aaron Hardie stitched together a calm, composed stand of 51 to seal the game with just four balls left — all while rain clouds hovered menacingly overhead.

Australia have now won all seven matches on this Caribbean tour – three Tests and four T20s – and are one win away from completing their first-ever clean sweep in a five-match T20 series. The West Indies showed flashes of fight, but it was Australia’s night, and once again, Maxwell’s brilliance stole the spotlight.

With one match left in St Kitts, all eyes will be on whether the Aussies can finish the job in style.
