Milwaukee Breathes Easy as 7-Year-Old Jamal White Found Safe After Amber Alert

I just have to take a moment to talk about something that shook the city of Milwaukee to its core—but thankfully, it ended with relief. The story of 7-year-old Jamal White, who was abducted at gunpoint outside his home on Friday night, had everyone on edge. But now, there’s good news: Jamal has been found safe, and the Amber Alert that was issued has officially been canceled.

Jamal, affectionately known to family as “Baby J,” was last seen near 61st and Hustis Street around 7 p.m. when he was suddenly taken and forced into a white Jeep Renegade. Police said the suspect was a Black male dressed in a black hoodie and black face mask. The terrifying part? A neighbor’s doorbell camera actually captured the moment. It shows Jamal riding his bike before the white SUV appeared, followed by chilling screams off-camera.

When the Amber Alert went out, the city mobilized like never before. Community members gathered at Carmen Park on Saturday, organizing a search party of about 75 people. Some knew Jamal personally—others didn’t—but they all had one goal: to bring this little boy home. They split into groups, handed out flyers, searched gas stations, checked wooded areas, and knocked on doors. It was the kind of grassroots effort that reminds you how powerful community can be in moments of crisis.

His cousin Raven Jackson described Jamal as sweet, playful, full of personality, and absolutely in love with cars, cartoons, and music. It’s just heartbreaking to think of anyone wanting to harm a child like that. Another cousin, Nikki Harrington, expressed the anguish they were feeling: "You wouldn’t think someone would do anything to a child... I just want Baby J to come home."

And thankfully, he did.

We still don’t have all the answers—like who took him or why—but we do know that Jamal is alive, safe, and back where he belongs. Milwaukee is breathing a collective sigh of relief tonight. But this moment also serves as a reminder: our children deserve safety, freedom to play, and a community that looks out for them. And if you see something suspicious—say something. It could mean the world to a child like Jamal.

Let’s hold each other a little tighter tonight. Baby J is home.
