Montreal Drenched by Violent Storm Before Summer Heat Roars Back
Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a heads-up about what’s been going on with the wild weather in Montreal. If you were anywhere near the city yesterday, you probably saw—or definitely felt—it: a severe thunderstorm that absolutely hammered us with nearly 100 millimetres of rain in just a short time. And now, after that intense soaking, the heat is rolling back in. It’s been a dramatic swing from flooding skies to steamy pavement.
The storm hit with force and fury. Environment Canada had already issued severe weather alerts, and by late evening, it became clear those warnings weren’t just routine. Heavy rainfall pounded the region, reducing visibility to near zero at times and overwhelming storm drains, which led to localized flooding in several neighborhoods. Roads turned into streams, and many residents scrambled to stay dry—or to deal with water creeping into basements.

Some reports even indicated wind gusts strong enough to snap tree branches and knock out power temporarily in a few areas. Emergency services were busy throughout the night responding to calls about downed lines and blocked roads. And while it wasn’t officially classified as a tornado, the sheer intensity of the weather had people understandably shaken.
But as quickly as the storm blew through, the skies began to clear, and now we’re dealing with the exact opposite problem: heat and humidity. Temperatures are expected to climb again this week, bringing that thick, sticky summer air that Montrealers know all too well. It’s almost hard to believe that, just hours ago, the city was dealing with monsoon-like conditions.
So if you're heading out today, make sure you're dressed for heat, not rain. And let’s all hope the storm was just a one-off and not a sign of more wild weather to come this summer. Keep an eye on weather alerts, stay hydrated, and stay safe out there, folks.
