Nearly a Million Scent Diffusers Recalled Over Hidden Magnet Hazard

If you’ve been using a Pura Scent diffuser at home lately, this is something you’ll want to pay attention to. A massive recall has just been issued for over 850,000 Pura 4 Smart Home Fragrance Diffusers sold across Canada and the U.S. — and the reason is a potential safety risk, especially for households with children or pets.

The issue centers around a design flaw in the diffuser's cover. Apparently, it contains five small magnets that can come loose if the cover detaches — and that poses a serious ingestion hazard. While no cases of magnets being swallowed have been reported yet, there have been at least three incidents where the magnets have come free. And when it comes to small children or curious pets, the danger isn’t just hypothetical. Ingesting more than one magnet can lead to severe internal injuries or even life-threatening complications if they attract each other inside the body.

The affected diffusers were sold between August 2023 and May 2025 through various online and retail outlets including Pura’s own website, Amazon, Target, and Scheel. If you purchased one during that period, you might want to check the serial number. The units involved fall within these ranges: JX230000001 to JX230801425 and JX240000001 to JX240049959. These numbers can typically be found on the bottom or back of the diffuser.

Now, if you do own one of these units, there’s no need to panic — but action should definitely be taken. Pura Scents is offering a free replacement cover to fix the issue. They’ve committed to reaching out to known customers, but you can also visit their website directly to request a replacement. It's a pretty straightforward process and an important step in keeping your household safe.

What’s commendable here is that the recall is being handled proactively. Even though no injuries have occurred so far, the decision to pull the product from the market shows a solid level of responsibility by both the company and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

So, if you rely on diffusers to keep your home smelling fresh, it might be a good time to inspect what you’ve got plugged in. And if you’re shopping for a new one, there are several alternative models on the market — ones that don’t come with tiny magnetic risks attached.

Better safe than sorry, especially when it comes to products used around kids or pets.
