Newcastle and Man Utd in Tug-of-War Over Sesko Amid Isak Exit Rumours

There’s a big shift brewing in the Premier League transfer scene, and the spotlight is squarely on Benjamin Sesko. The 22-year-old RB Leipzig striker has suddenly become one of the hottest names in European football — and not without reason. With Alexander Isak reportedly keen on leaving Newcastle, and Liverpool seemingly at the front of the queue with a mammoth offer in the region of £150 million, the Magpies are being forced to rethink their attacking options. And that’s where Sesko comes in.

Now, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has always been clear about wanting to keep Isak. But the reality is, once a player starts pushing for a move — especially with that kind of price tag attached — things get tricky. And while losing Isak would be a blow, it might just open the door to a rebuild funded by one blockbuster deal, much like what Liverpool once did with Coutinho.

Enter Benjamin Sesko. Newcastle see him as a top target, and it’s no surprise — the Slovenian forward had an impressive season in the Bundesliga, netting 21 goals and picking up 6 assists. He’s quick, strong in the air, and stands at nearly two meters tall, making him a classic No. 9 with a modern twist. His teammate at Leipzig, Loïs Openda, has also been linked, but Sesko seems to be the priority.

However, things are never that simple in the transfer world. Manchester United are also eyeing Sesko as they look to bolster their attack under new boss Ruben Amorim. Despite bringing in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, United still lack a natural centre-forward — and Sesko fits the bill. Christopher Vivell, now part of the recruitment team at Old Trafford and a key figure in Sesko’s early career, is said to be pushing hard for the move.

Vivell has been full of praise, calling Sesko “extremely quick,” “strong in the air,” and someone with “enormous potential.” He believes the young striker could thrive in Amorim’s system, particularly with players like Mbeumo and Dorgu providing the service from wide areas.

The twist? Geography and lifestyle might just play a role. As Stuart Pearce recently pointed out, players — and their families — are often drawn to cities like Manchester or London. That could make United a more appealing destination than Newcastle, even with the lure of Champions League football at St. James’ Park.

So, will Newcastle win the race and replace Isak with Sesko, or will Manchester United swoop in with Vivell pulling strings behind the scenes? Either way, this one is far from over — and it’s shaping up to be one of the transfer sagas of the summer.
